If you are relatively new to the field of Deer hunting in the woods, you just
might need some cool ideas with you. Deer stalking can be one of those. It’s a
pretty old tradition for the Deer hunters for ages, but very less followed
nowadays. Though it takes time and efforts, it is still worth it. Here are a
few guidelines you can follow to stalk Deer while hunting.
Get a glimpse of the territory
If you have a specific area for your hunting plan, visit the
place before the hunting season begins. Closely observe all the areas and nook
and corners. Spot your primary hunting sites. Areas with acorns and different
fruits can be a good choice of inhabiting by the Deer flock. These areas can be
traced for primary target. Plan the way you would move about for going after
the Deer instead to waiting for the prey to come to you.
Move slow
Dried leaves and grass can be a problematic source of sound
if you walk on those. The crunching of dried leaves and grass will cause noise
enough to scare away the Deer. Move as slow as possible to avoid this. Keep
your eyes open for any sign of life passing around. Antlers, far, bedding or
any sign of live movement can be essential. Move slow and keep your ears alert
for even a slightest sound.
Understand Deer life
After the sunrise, Deer incline to bed down half an hour
later. They generally keep moving in that place around 30-40 minutes before
sunset. During the fall hunting season, Deer feed in the fields and move very
short distance for bed change or discharging purpose. If the weather is cooler,
Deer move more than normal and roam around a bit later after sunrise.
Eliminate Body Fragrance
Deer possess a very strong-smelling sense. With a very
sensitive nose, Deer can trace any life from a long distance. The sense gets
stronger when there is a strong wind blowing as it challenges their smelling
capability and hearing. So, cover up your scent or any kind of element that may
be a reason for the Deer to detect you. Do not use deodorants, perfumes,
scented shampoos or aftershave items etc. while going out for hunting. Do not
wear clothes that are washed with scented washing powder or liquid. You can find special types of clothes for
hunters that help you eliminate any risky scents for the Deer to track you.
Get in Shape
If you are not so physically Okay, then hunting down the Deer
will cost you price. As we have discussed earlier, if you have visited the
hunting area before during the off-season, you may track down places you may
need to apply some acrobat skills to go after the Deer. A Deer will obviously
be one step ahead of you in jumping and sprinting at places, if you are not
prepared enough. Analyze the places and start working out or practicing during
off-season. Build up your stamina and physical strength for maximum output.
The first rule of thumb for Deer hunting is always to be
prepared with maximum caution. Following these few advices will definitely
eradicate most of the constraints you may face during the actual hunting. Keep
the tips in mind and have a happy hunting season!
